Alianza DXB Transforms Your iPhone into a Walkie-Talkie

Why do ancient communication devices like walkie-talkie still exist until today? It’s because in some places, cellular signal is a luxury that you can enjoy only if you have a very deep pocket. If your occupation requires you to stay in such areas, you might need this special iPhone case called Alianza DxB. While it’s nowhere pretty, this bulky docking solution can transform your iPhone into a walkie-talkie with multi-band radios support.

Alianza DXB : Walkie-Talkie dock for iPhone, Android & Blackberry

To be specific, DXB is compatible with VHF, UHF, and 800MHz radio signal. Interestingly, there is no accompanying app that you must install, so it’s possible to use it even when your handset runs out of juice. Although cellular network isn’t an essential prerequisite for this thing to work, its existence will expand its coverage to unlimited range, thanks to a unique feature called Radio-Over-IP. It’s live on Kickstarter now and below is the pitch video!

Since people who are likely interested to get their hands on DXB are those who work outdoor, making the dock rugged is out of question. Moreover, it also has a battery built into it because, as you know, you can never rely on your phone’s battery in emergency situation. No wonder this thing is big.

Suppose you’re not working and happen to be staying with your family in your hometown, you can take off the antenna and the knobs to make it look less ugly. Of course, that would also mean you’re taking away its main functionality as a multi-band walkie-talkie. In order to secure one once it’s ready for shipping, you need to submit a minimum pledge of $400. Pricey? Think again; multi-band radios can cost far more than that.
