Casetop Converts Your Handset into an 11-inch Laptop
Are you aware that the mightiest smartphone today, Samsung Galaxy S4, packs enough horsepower to match a well-built gaming rig? Indeed, its internals are pretty powerful to carry out any tasks your desktop or laptop commonly does. So, why don’t you use it as a laptop as well? It saves you both the money and space.
In case, you think the said idea is cool, you might want to invest on this Casetop, a brainchild of a Canadian startup called Livi Design. Despite the name, I suppose it’s too big to be considered as a smartphone case (it’s more than twice as large as the Galaxy S4). So, calling it a smartphone dock might be more appropriate. That aside, this accessory is designed to transform your smartphone into a laptop.
Better yet, it doesn’t have to be as powerful as the GS4. So long your handset is Bluetooth-enabled and has a video out option, it’s all compatible with the dock. Still, don’t expect it to deliver the same experience. The laptop performance complete depends on your handset.
At the moment of this writing, Casetop’s maker is launching a Kickstarter campaign to raise the necessary fund for its manufacturing. You can check put their pitch on the video below!
Out of the box, Casetop sports a 11-inch display with 720p resolution, full size keyboard, and dual speakers. If they raise funds more than what they expected, they might replace the so-so screen with full HD display. To get a functional unit of this dock, you need a minimum pledge of $220. Personally, I think it’s a better deal than the trending lightweight Chromebook.
