Luxi Converts Your iPhone into an Incident Light Meter
Taking photographs using a DSLR camera sounds like a nice idea but believe me it’s not very easy using this kind of shooter. There is more science in using it compared to typical poin-and-shoot camera, which I prefer. For example, you need to figure out the amount of light on which your target is exposed. To do this, you need a professional light meter which can cost over 100 bucks. If you don’t like that, you need to thank James Flynn for developing Luxi.
In a nutshell, it’s a small camera clip for your iPhone featuring a diffusion dome capable of measuring light intensity. More importantly, this accessory is far more affordable than any decent light meters in the market. With a pledge of $19 on its Kickstarter campaign, you have secured one unit for your own good. Tap on the pitch video below to know more about its functionality.
Luxi’s diffusion dome is designed to fit nicely atop your iPhone’s front-facing snapper. Using it is dead simple. All you need is to run the app and you can get a proper light measurement right away. While I haven’t tested it on my own, Flynn boasts that its accuracy is really close to that of professional light meters.
The campaign has reached the necessary funding goal, so it’s just a matter of time before it’s produced for mass. It’s quite understandable, though, given that not every day you can get a cheap light meter with sleek interface displayed on premium Retina screen.
