If I hear about a robotic prison guards or robot wardens, what I imagine is a large robot and comes with advanced weapons technology, such as laser guns, who always ready to annihilate inmates who trying to escape from prison. Yes, I know. the last one is too much, at least for now. But did you know in March 2012, a prison in the eastern city of Pohang, South Korea plans to run a month-long experiment with three robots ? These robots will be on duty as prison guards or wardens who monitor the inmates of any suspicious activities.

Robotic Prison Guards

With high 1.5 meters, the robot is moving with four wheels and is equipped with cameras and other sensors that allow them to detect risky behaviors such as violence and suicide. Very far from what I have imagined before about the robots prison guard , even this robot is not scary at all, just look at the photo above.

Prof Lee Baik-Chu, of Kyonggi University, who led the design process, said “As we’re almost done with creating its key operating system, we are now working on refining its details to make it look more friendly to inmates“. Come on, want to look more friendly like what else? like Pororo Little Penguin (South Korean animation) ? I think it is enough, considering that these robots served as a prison guard.
